Matt Hoffman has been practicing traffic, DUI and criminal law for over 10 years. He has practiced in these areas exclusively his entire legal career, as either a prosecutor or as the attorney for the defense.
Matt received his undergraduate degree from Marquette University in 1993. In 1999, Matt graduated from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. During law school, Matt worked as a summer intern with felony prosecutors at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office at the 26th and California criminal courts building.
Upon law school graduation, Matt joined the Lake County, Illinois State’s Attorney’s Office, where he became an Assistant State’s Attorney practicing in the Traffic Division. In the Traffic Division, Matt prosecuted traffic cases assigned to the various Lake County branch traffic courts, and also prosecuted DUI charges assigned to the main Lake County courthouse in downtown Waukegan.
Eventually, Matt worked in all of the major criminal and traffic divisions of Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. These Divisions included Misdemeanor, Juvenile, Felony Review, Narcotics and Felony. In the State’s Attorney’s Office, Matt tried a wide array of traffic related charges, including DUI, fleeing and eluding, and vehicular reckless homicide. Matt also handled hundreds, if not thousands, of separate traffic tickets and moving violations. Matt left the State’s Attorney’s Office in the fall of 2005, after working there more than six years.
Matt is now in his sixth year of private practice. Today, Matt defends clients against the exact same charges on which he used to prosecute people as an Assistant State’s Attorney. As a result, Matt represents many clients in traffic court on a wide variety of traffic cases and traffic issues. As is indicated throughout this website, Matt appears routinely in the traffic courts of Lake County and Northern Cook County, Illinois.
Matt handles almost any kind of traffic court related matter within these jurisdictions. He defends clients charged with all moving violations, insurance violations, DUI, driving on suspended or revoked driver’s licenses, and on all other traffic violations and vehicle-based offenses. He represents special classes of drivers who are subject to greater regulation and quicker punishment, such as drivers under the age of 21 and commercial driver’s license holders.
Matt also works with clients who have already lost their driving privileges, including drivers who have been suspended for too many moving violations or revoked for DUI.
